Care and Maintenance
Care & Maintenance Instructions for Salon Chairs
Proper care and regular maintenance will ensure the longevity, appearance, and safe operation of your salon chair.
Daily Care
- Wipe down the chair after each client using a soft, damp cloth.
- Use mild soap or a non-abrasive cleaner suitable for upholstery and metal surfaces.
- Dry thoroughly to prevent moisture buildup, especially around metal components.
Upholstery Care
- Clean vinyl upholstery with a gentle, pH-neutral cleaner.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, alcohol, bleach, or abrasive pads, as these may cause cracking, fading, or peeling.
- Clean spills immediately to prevent staining.
- Hair dyes can stain the vinyl, it is recommended to use covers to protect the chairs
- Keep chairs away from prolonged direct sunlight to reduce discoloration and material wear.
Hydraulic & Mechanical Components
- Periodically check the hydraulic pump for smooth operation.
- If the chair fails to raise, lower, or hold its position properly, discontinue use and contact Living It Up.
Base & Frame Maintenance
- Regularly inspect the base, footrest, and frame for loose screws or bolts; tighten as needed.
- Clean metal parts with a soft cloth and a non-abrasive metal cleaner.
- Avoid dragging the chair across floors; lift carefully to prevent damage to the base and flooring.
General Usage Guidelines
- When mounting and dismounting the chair it should be in the lowest position, do not stand or lean forward on the footrest as it can cause the chair to tip and can damage the footrest.
- Avoid standing on the chair, armrests, or footrest.
- Use the chair only for its intended purpose within a salon environment.
Storage & Environment
- Store chairs in a clean, dry area when not in use.
- Avoid exposure to excessive humidity, heat, or corrosive substances.
Professional Servicing
- Replace worn or damaged parts promptly to ensure safety and performance.
Care & Maintenance Instructions – Chrome and Gold Bases and Frames
Chrome and gold bases and frames require special care to maintain their appearance and protective finish.
Protective Oil Coating
- Chrome and gold bases are coated with a protective oil film applied by the manufacturer.
- This oil film is essential for protecting the surface from chemical reactions and surface damage.
- If the protective oil is removed during cleaning, the surface may become vulnerable to staining, discoloration, rusting, or corrosion.
Exposure to Hair Dyes
- Hair dyes contain oxidizing agents that can react with metal surfaces if the protective oil film is compromised.
- Always cover the chair base and frame when performing hair colouring or chemical services to prevent direct contact with dyes or developers.
- Any spills should be wiped off immediately using a soft, dry cloth.
Cleaning Guidelines
- Do NOT use harsh cleaning chemicals, degreasers, alcohol, bleach, or abrasive cleaners on metal surfaces.
- These products can strip away the protective oil film and permanently damage the metal finish.
- For routine cleaning, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth only.
Maintaining the Protective Finish
- To maintain the protective oil film, regularly apply a liquid wax product.
- Suitable liquid waxes, commonly used for cars, leather, or metal surfaces, help to:
- Restore a glossy finish
- Maintain the protective oil layer
- Provide a barrier against hair dye chemicals
- Apply the liquid wax according to the product instructions and buff gently with a soft cloth.
Alternative Protection
- A light lubricating oil (such as WD-40 or a similar product) may also be used to help maintain the protective coating.
- Apply sparingly and wipe away excess oil to avoid buildup.
Important Notes
- Damage caused by improper cleaning, chemical exposure, or failure to maintain the protective oil film may result in permanent surface damage.
- Regular maintenance is essential to preserve the appearance and longevity of metal finishes.
